| Diamonds : The Most
Precious Gem. |
With no other gems comparable with it in
brilliancy, elegance and durability, this birthstone of April,
overwhelmingly chosen in association with engagement rings,
is also a recommended gift for the occasions of 10th, 60th and
75th wedding anniversaries.
The four points to be considered in determining the value of
diamonds are:
(1)The cut Graded excellent , very good, fair or poor , it shows
the degree of skill in executing design, cutting and symmetrizing
(2)The color - It refers to presence or absence of color in
white diamonds. The whiter the stone, the more it is valuable.
(3)The clarity- It refers to presence of surface or internal
flaws. Flawless diamonds, the best of course and exceptionally
rare, are very costly.
(4) Carat weight- It refers to the size of the stone for whose
value ,though usually higher with larger size, it is needed
to consider such other factors as mentioned above.
There are fancy natural colored diamonds with "faint" or "vivid"
saturation in such colors as red, pink ,blue, green, yellow
and other ones, their values depending upon rarity, saturation
and purity of the color they exhibit.
Though being the hardest known substance on earth, ranking "10"
on the Mohs scale, diamonds are yet to be handled with care,
never wearing them during heavy work and, especially, wrapping
diamond jewelry piece by piece separately for storage lest they
should touch one another.
Despite usability of mild liquid detergents, house-hold ammonia
or brand-name cleaners, etc., for cleaning diamonds, it always
is advisable to have it done by a professional. |
